FRIENDSHIP — The Friendship/Cushing Food Pantry relocated to a new pantry building in the Town of Friendship — 8 Kaler lane in the Town garage parking lot.

After 18 years of the Friendship/Cushing food pantry established in the old Cushing library it was decided by the committee a new building was needed. The Friendship/Cushing Pantry was generously gifted with a donation from lifetime Friendship resident Edna Simmons when she passed away.

This gift was what allowed us to purchase an Amish made building back in the fall of 2021. The Amish building was delivered, and work has been continuous on it ever since. The pad for the building was donated by Don Bowden, from Bowden Construction. Volunteers, contractors and committee members have put in countless hours to finish the inside insulation, shelving, painting, and adding the electrical to the building.

The edible garden plants in the front of the pantry building were all donated by Barley Joe’s Greenhouse in Warren. Countless donated hours have completed this “new” Friendship/Cushing Food Pantry and it proves what a community can accomplish when a need arises to help one another. The pantry will be open Saturday, June 11, at our usual time of 9-11 a.m. and open the following Saturday, June 18, at the same time.

We will be having an Open House at the new pantry June 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This is a food pantry that serves both communities and has done so for several decades and will continue for decades to come.

Eventually, we will be adding a cooler on the porch of the pantry to provide after hours pickup for those who did not make the scheduled hours and may need a loaf of bread or can of soup. The porch will also be the location for those who would like to drop off garden vegetables or additional donations of food.
