ROCKPORT — Perhaps the Camden Hills girls lacrosse team is peaking at the perfect time — namely, as the Windjammers enter their final regular-season and playoff encounters.

The Windjammers, who have five victories this spring, beat host Lawrence of Fairfield 12-4 on Thursday, May 26 in a match that turned lopsided after Camden trailed 4-3 at halftime.

Lila Hall (4 goals), Ella Powers (2 goals, assist), Jaden Johnson (2 goals), Georgia Heintzman (goal), Lea Zwecker (goal), Lucy Cohen (goal, assist) and Anna Griebel (goal) keyed the winners’ offense. McKinley “Roo” Boetsch made nine saves in net

Camden Hills coach Wade Ward said the Bulldogs, from the gate, “had a good draw game and attacked aggressively and were successful early on. It took a good deal of the first half for our team to contain Lawrence’s transition and for our midfield/defense to adjust to their offensive style. We made some first-half adjustments to bring the score close.

“Our girls did a great job in the second half of focusing on better possessions, moving the ball around and finding opportunities to attack the defense; patience in the clear and finding space allowed for some better/quicker transitions. Our girls made adjustments to how we were riding their clears to pressure their ballcarriers in their end of the field and the midfield and defenders made great adjustments to how they defended the individual ballcarriers. We have been happy with how the girls are working on increasing their skill development week to week and the distribution in the offense.”
