AUGUSTA — Hundreds of student-athletes competed in two Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference high school track-and-field meets on Friday afternoon, May 27 in an effort to be crowned small, medium and large school individual and relay champions.

When the events at Cony in Augusta (small and medium schools) and Messalonskee in Oakland (large schools) finished, seven Midcoast individual competitors and two relay teams had earned titles.

Camden Hills’ Amelia Johnson led the area contingent with two individual first on the Taylor Harmon Track.

Camden Hills of Rockport and Medomak Valley of Waldoboro competed among the medium schools and Belfast, Mount View of Thorndike and Oceanside of Rockland for small schools, with those meets held simutaneously at Cony early Friday afternoon.

The larger schools competed later the same afternoon at Messalonskee.

In hot, humid conditions in Augusta, the small and medium schools were combined at the same meet due to the threat of rain on Saturday, May 28. The medium schools were to compete on Saturday and small schools on Friday, both at Cony. The large schools were to compete on Saturday at Messalonskee, but that meet also was moved up a day.
