OWLS HEAD — Jacob Carroll said the key to his academic success has been finding the right balance between student life and life outside school.

Carroll found that balance. He is the valedictorian for Oceanside High School’s Class of 2022.

Oceanside High School will graduate the Class of 2022 on Tuesday, June 7 at 5 p.m. at Wasgatt Field in Rockland. If the weather is poor, the ceremony will be moved to the high school auditorium in Rockland.

Carroll, the son of Tim and Heidi Carroll of Owls Head, has attended schools in Regional School Unit 13 since kindergarten, attending Gilford Butler School in South Thomaston, Owls Head Central School in Owls Head, Oceanside Middle School in Thomaston, and Oceanside High School in Rockland.

Math is his favorite subject in school.

“I like numbers. I’m a numbers guy,” he said.

Carroll has also played football and basketball throughout high school and the first three years of high school he played baseball. This year, he added to his repertoire by performing in the school’s theater program’s one-act plays.

The Owls Head teen plans to attend the University of Maine in Orono where he will study civil engineering.

Outside of school, he said he enjoys the outdoors and being out on the water, whether it be the ocean or lakes.

In 2018, Carroll was selected to participate in the inaugural FBI National Academy Youth Leadership Program. The youth academy is a week-long program of classroom study, physical fitness, guest lectures and leadership experiences.
