There will be a Memorial Day Ceremony conducted by members of American Legion Post No. 1 Monday, May 30. The ceremony will be held in the shade of the giant flagpole of the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors Memorial on the corner of Park and Main streets. The ceremony will start with music from Bay Winds North at 9:45 a.m., with welcoming remarks and the program to follow at 10 a.m.

Carol Bachofner, poet laureate emeritus of the City of Rockland, will read a poem she wrote and delivered last year in honor of her father, a combat veteran. Post Color Guard members Gary Gamage and Carroll Gifford will attend, and Sergeant at Arms Gifford will lay a wreath at the base of the monument.

The public is invited to help honor those brave souls who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our wonderful country and honor the families of those fallen heroes.
