ROCKLAND — A 30-year-old man from Western Maine is prohibited from being in Knox County after a bail hearing Friday on charges that he assaulted a woman at her home in Rockland.

John Everett Larson Jr. of Waterford was arrested early Friday morning May 20 and charged with domestic violence assault, obstructing report of a crime, and violation of a condition of release.

He made his initial appearance later that morning in the Knox County court where bail was set at $500 cash. One of the bail conditions is that he cannot be in Knox County except for legal appointments.

According to an affidavit filed in court by Rockland police, officers were called to a domestic violence report at a residence on Rankin Street at 12:01 a.m. May 20. The woman, who is pregnant, reported that she told a man to leave her home and he got on top of her and put his hands over her mouth, making it hard for her to breathe, according to the police affidavit.

She said he did it a second time and also pulled her hair from behind, pushed her against a dresser, and took her phone.

He finally ran from the home when the victim’s mother arrived.

Rockland police obtained a temporary arrest warrant and apprehended him when he returned to residence, knocking on the door to be let back inside, according to the affidavit.
