ROCKLAND — A captured-live high-definition broadcast from London’s Bridge Theatre of “The Book of Dust — La Belle Sauvage” will be presented as a National Theatre Live production on Thursday, May 19, at the Strand Theatre, 345 Main St. Showtimes are 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Set 12 years before the epic “His Dark Materials” trilogy, this gripping adaptation revisits Philip Pullman’s fantastical world in which waters are rising and storms are brewing. Two young people and their dæmons, with everything at stake, find themselves at the center of a terrifying manhunt. In their care is a tiny child called Lyra Belacqua, and in that child lies the fate of the future. And as the waters rise around them, powerful adversaries conspire for mastery of Dust — salvation to some, the source of infinite corruption to others.
Rated PG-13; run time is 3 hours. Tickets are $15/General Admission and $13/Strand Members. For COVID safety, masks are required until seated, and audience capacity is reduced to 30%. To buy tickets, or for more information, visit rocklandstrand.com.
