Knox County saw 23 additional COVID-19 cases during the past day, the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported Thursday, May 5.

There was also another Knox County resident admitted to a hospital during the past day because of the virus.

Since the pandemic began in Maine in March 2020, 6,291 Knox County residents have been diagnosed with the virus, 83 have been admitted to hospitals, and 36 have died.

Statewide an additional 699 cases were reported during the past day. There were eight additional deaths reported statewide May 5, increasing that number to 2,304.

There were 12 additional people statewide admitted to hospitals in Maine with COVID-19 during the past day, with the number at 4,779 since the pandemic began in March 2020.

The CDC reports 169 Mainers currently in the hospital. This is a jump of more than 70 in the past three weeks and the highest level since the end of February. The peak was 436 in early January. Of the 169 hospitalized, 30 are in critical care units and three on ventilators. Sixty-nine critical care beds are available in Maine.
