Knox County saw 25 additional COVID-19 cases during the past day, the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported Wednesday, May 4.

Since the pandemic began in Maine in March 2020, 6,268 Knox County residents have been diagnosed with the virus, 82 have been admitted to hospitals, and 36 have died.

Statewide an additional 1,030 cases were reported during the past day. There were five additional deaths reported statewide May 4, increasing that number to 2,296.

There were 24 additional people statewide admitted to hospitals in Maine with COVID-19 during the past day, with the number at 4,767 since the pandemic began in March 2020.

The CDC reports 162 Mainers currently in the hospital. This is a jump of more than 60 in the past three weeks and the highest level since the first week of March. The peak was 436 in early January. Of the 162 hospitalized, 30 are in critical care units and three on ventilators. Seventy-seven critical care beds are available in Maine.
