THOMASTON — Flaura, a new shop located at 185 Main St. in Thomaston, offers everything customers could need for a special evening and more.

Owner Aura Ellis of Cushing described her products as “provisions for the good life.”

Flaura features bouquets, potted plants, fine wine, chocolates and candles.

Ellis previously worked event design for weddings and special events, and grew flowers on the fifth generation family farm in Cushing, where she lives with her husband and 2 daughters.

Then the COVID-19 pandemic happened. “I threw myself into growing flowers,” Ellis said. She was selling her flowers at various places, and realized she was ready to expand her business.

“I always wanted to run a retail shop,” Ellis said.

As her shop grows, Ellis said she hopes to incorporate her own flowers into her products and flowers from local flower farms.

Ellis also combined her love for fine wine with her shop. Ellis said she selects wines that are organic, biodynamic and family-run. Biodynamic agriculture involves farming with the seasons and the moon. “It’s almost spiritual,” Ellis explained.

Flaura offers a variety of products from Maine and high-quality items produced elsewhere. Customers can purchase Ragged Coast Chocolates, based out of Portland, as well as candles from Paris, France.

Ellis said she loves to support Maine businesses, and at the same time wants to offer unique products not available in other local shops.

Flaura is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
