LINCOLNVILLE — Firefighters responded to 10 Chapman Drive just off Route 52 after a car fire threatened to spread to a garage.

“She went to start the vehicle for the first time this year and someone had made a home in it,” said Fire Chief Don Fullington III.

A rodent, probably a squirrel or chipmunk, went running away from the car into the garage, in flames, as the fire started.

The owner of the white Buick LeSabre attempted to put out the fire with a garden hose, but, realizing it was getting away from her, contacted the fire department.

The fire was in danger of spreading to the garage, so mutual aid was called in, but fortunately, the firefighters were able to knock it down before it did more than minor smoke and heat damage to the building.

No one was injured.
