ROCKLAND — The Center for Maine Contemporary Art (CMCA) invites the public to “Abstract Painting, A Celebration of Place,” an adult workshop with artist and educator Karen Jelenfy Sunday, April 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Explore abstract painting that draws inspiration from landscapes rooted in a celebration of place. During this one day class (lunch break from noon to 1 p.m.), participants will reference works currently on view at CMCA along with masterworks by Andrew Wyeth, Chaim Soutine, and Joan Mitchell to inspire your own abstract paintings.

Jelenfy has lived and painted in Midcoast Maine since 2004. She is also an educator and writer with an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. Her work can be found in upcoming exhibitions at All Roads Hub, Bridgton, and University of New England Gallery, Portland.

The cost is $100 for CMCA members, $125 for non-members, and $85 for seniors. The registration deadline is Sunday, April 10, at 8 a.m.; register at cmcanow.org. All workshop attendees are required to show proof of vaccination and wear a mask while indoors at CMCA, 21 Winter St. For more information, email Education Programs Manager Mia Bogyo at mbogyo@cmcanow.org.
