Winnie Snow

CAMDEN — Winnie Snow is 100 yrs. old!

She was born on March 30, 1922, and has seen many changes in her beloved hometown of Camden.

She was born on Bay View Street, the third daughter of Ernest and Edna Hardy Heath.

She remembers most all of the streets were dirt roads at that time and has a fond recollection of her father getting their first car around 1927.

Winnie and her sisters, Lucy and Bunny, walked everywhere — to the Elm Street School and the high school on Knowlton Street, to the Snow Bowl to skate, ski or go sledding, or sometimes even to Rockland, for special events.

She met the love of her life, Dwight G. Snow when she was 16 years old. Dwight had come to town from Ashland, Maine as part of the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC’s) working on the Camden Hills State Park building shelters and trails.

They married when Winnie was 18 years old and bought a “fixer-upper” on the same street where she was born, at 101 Bay View Street.

Dwight worked as an auto mechanic for Miller’s Garage in Rockland until his death in 1978. Winnie worked part-time at the Smiling Cow and in later years, she worked full-time for The Colony and Haskell & Corthell clothing stores Camden.

She and Dwight raised four children in their two-bedroom house and she lived there happily until she was 91 years old, when she moved to Rockport to live with her daughter.

Winnie still lives independently with a little assistance. She loves to dress fashionably, decorate her home for the seasons and holidays, and spend time with her dear friends.

Her lifelong hobby and love of gardening is still a passion, and she looks forward to planting season every year.

Winnie will be celebrating her special day with her four children, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She is a bright light and inspiration to all who know her! Happy Birthday Winnie!
