WALDOBORO — The Waldo Theatre, 916 Main St., hosts Halcyon String Quartet’s musical rendition of Robert McCloskey’s book “Burt Dow, Deep-Water Man” Saturday, April 9, at 7 p.m.

Halcyon String Quartet teams up with The Waldo and Waldoboro Public Library to present this whale of a tale told in the classic tradition. Narrated by Ben Meader, the performance features projections of McCloskey’s iconic artwork alongside Halcyon’s arrangements of musical favorites “Beyond the Sea,” “Baby Beluga,” “Down by the Bay” and “Fly Me to the Moon,” among many others. This show is appropriate for all ages.

With generous support from the Maine Public Library Fund, additional free programming is available for families and students. On Saturday, April 9, at 10 a.m., Halcyon hosts a free story hour at the Waldoboro Public Library, 958 Main St., which will include narration, music, and an interactive introduction to string instruments. While the Friday, April 8, student matinee at The Waldo is already booked to capacity, the event will be live-streamed at 1 p.m. to school groups unable to attend in-person.

“We could not be more excited to put together this show,” said Halcyon violinist Sophie Davis. “Collaborating with so many people on this project has felt like one big celebration of our maritime culture and heritage, it’s an opportunity to combine beautiful artwork, humor, childhood songs, and really, just a chance to tell a classic story!”

Halcyon is a string quartet based in Midcoast Maine that combines music with art, science and storytelling, to cultivate environmental stewardship and celebrate Maine’s cultural and environmental heritage. For more information, visit halcyonstringquartet.org.
