BANGOR — The Midcoast will be represented at the 42nd annual Maine McDonald’s Senior Basketball All-Star Weekend on Friday and Saturday, March 11-12 as two high-profile hoopsters from Medomak Valley High School will make the trek north to compete in their final high school game.

Panthers Trevor Brown and Patrick McKenney were named to the Classes A/AA/B South boys teams and will play in that game on Saturday, March 12 at 11:15 a.m. at Husson University’s Newman Gymnasium.

Players were selected by the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches.

Brown, a high-energy, slashing guard/forward, who scored his 1,000th career point midseason in a win at Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield and ended his high school career with 1,232 points, averaged 21.5 points and 6.4 rebounds. He also averaged 17 points in the Class B South tournament as the Panthers advanced to the regional final before falling to Yarmouth.

McKenney, the team’s point guard, averaged 13.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.2 assist sand 2.4 steals and ended his high school career with 943 points. He also averaged 13 points in the regional tournament.

Aidan O’Connell of Camden Hills, Draedyn Furrow Mount View and Jacob Carroll of Oceanside made the grade as members of the academic All-State team.

The Classes A/AA/B girls game will begin the day of games at 9:45 a.m., while the Classes C/D boys and C/D girls games will be played later in the day. The day will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the state foul-shooting championship.

The event not only brings together many of the top senior basketball players in the state for final games against topnotch competition, but simultaneously raises funds for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine programs.

As a precursor, on Friday, March 11, a virtual awards ceremony will recognize more than 120 recipients across the state for various awards, including announcing the winners for Mr. and Mrs. Maine Basketball, the state’s highest hoop honor for senior high school athletes.
