ROCKPORT — On Saturday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m., Bay Chamber Concerts and Music School presents South African guitarist Derek Gripper at the Rockport Opera House, 6 Central St. Back by popular demand, Gripper’s program will include a range of repertoire, from music based on oral traditions of Africa to virtuosic kora compositions to music by Bach. Originally from Cape Town, Gripper has been playing classical music since he was six years old. His performance career includes collaborations with classical guitar legend John Williams and concerts in a range of venues from Carnegie Hall to the TEDX stage. “We are thrilled to welcome Derek back to Bay Chamber after his magnificent performance here in 2019,” said Artistic Director Manuel Bagorro.

Bay Chamber also presents a free guitar workshop led by Gripper from 1 to 2 p.m. on Feb. 12 at the Rockport Opera House. This offering focuses on the music and guitar techniques of West Africa. Tickets are $35/35 and older, $20/ages 22 to 34, and pay-what-you-wish/21 and younger.
