CAMDEN — Barbara McCarthy, of Camden, celebrated her 100th birthday Friday, Jan. 21 with Chinese food and a parade on her street put on by her friends.
“I’m a person who is satisfied with everything,” she said.
She said the happiest period in her life was living with her husband, Billy, a member of the Merchant Marine, in Freedom, N.H. However, she added that Camden, where she has lived for the past 20 years is a lovely place.
She was born in Winthrop, Mass. and studied to be a secretary in Boston. She was a school secretary in Freedom and sometimes helped with the teaching.
Her family includes her two children, along with grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She lives in Camden with her daughter, Steva Parkman.
