COCOA, FLA. — Tim Stenger, 62, of Cocoa, Fla., passed away on Jan. 16, 2022, after a pulmonary embolism that resulted in a 66 day battle in the hospital.

Tim was born on Oct. 5, 1959, to Bob and Marlene Stenger in Rockland, Maine. He graduated from Rockland District High School in 1978, where he played on the high school basketball team. He developed a passion for the game which carried on through his adult life.

He began his career in aviation at his father’s company, DownEast Airlines, that ran out of the Knox County Airport. In 1979, he met Kathy Makie, and they wed in 1982. They moved to Florida, and he went on to get his Airframe and Powerplant license and bachelors degree in Aerospace Management at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla.

After graduation, he landed his first job as an engineering planner for McDonald Douglas in Missouri for three years. He transferred to Lockheed Martin in Florida, where he continued his career for 30-plus years.

They had two children: Heather Olsen and Amanda Mathews.

Tim was a family man. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren fiercely. His family was his pride and joy, and he loved supporting his family with his time, gift and talents. Tim was always willing to lend a helping hand with house projects, participating in work days at Grace Community Church, and he could often be found cheering on the grandkids at the soccer fields.

Tim had an adventurous spirit, and he was all about the scenic drive, not the destination. He loved wildlife, mimicking the calls of birds, fishing in any body of water — especially from his dock on the Indian River Lagoon — hiking, biking, chasing waterfalls and mountain views along the Blue Ridge Parkway. He often had a car full of rocks for the ride home after his adventures. Tim had a knack for landscape design and used all his new found treasures to make his yard an eco-friendly oasis. Tim loved music, especially rock, and we often found him whistling a tune.

Tim was predeceased by his mom, Marlene. He is survived by wife, Kathy Stenger; daughters, Heather Olsen, and her husband, Jeff, of Wesley Chapel and Amanda Mathews, and her husband, Jeff, of Port St. John; grandchildren: Karissa Olsen, Madison Olsen, Olivia Olsen, Julia Olsen, Kahlan Mathews, Malina Mathews, Alannah Mathews, and William Mathews; father, Robert Stenger Sr.; brother, Robert Stenger Jr., and his wife, Afton; sister, Leslie Richardson, and her husband, John; and many nieces and nephews.
