THOMASTON — Advance registration is now open for Down East Singers, which will begin in-person rehearsals for spring semester Tuesday, Feb. 1, in Watts Hall, 174 Main St. Rehearsals will continue Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. through May 24. The ensemble will prepare the Brahms German Requiem for performance Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, at 5 p.m. at Watts Hall. The chorus will be accompanied by Mozart Mentors Orchestra, conducted by Anthony Antolini. Soloists will be Sarah Tuttle, soprano, and John David Adams, bass.

Anthony Antolini of Cushing, the group’s artistic director, has conducted the ensemble since 1991. Jennifer McIvor of Wiscasset is the assistant conductor and accompanist.

Down East Singers is open to all community members, and new singers are welcome. Sight-reading skills are desired but not required, as long as the ability to match pitch is demonstrated. All singers are expected to work on their music at home between rehearsals. The membership fee is $75, payable either through the website or by mail. High school singers sing for free. Help with learning choral parts is provided through several easily accessible online services. Evidence of full vaccination and booster will be required for all members.
