NORTH HAVEN — A North Haven man was taken to the hospital following an all-terrain vehicle crash on Christmas Day.

According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, at about 12:40 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 25, Knox County Regional Communications received a report of an ATV crash near Pulpit Harbor on North Haven.

First responders arrived and found an ATV, operated by Joshua Mays, 25, of Westbrook, on its side and the passenger, Caleb Campbell, 22, of North Haven, injured. Campbell was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport for injuries.

The preliminary investigation shows the ATV lost control as it drove by the icy roadway at the intersection of North Shore Road and Pulpit Harbor Road. The ATV rolled onto its side, pinning Campbell under it.

Mays was charged with operating without a license, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by North Haven Fire and Emergency Medical Services and the Maine Warden Service.
