ROCKLAND — The latest edition of the Strand Theatre’s Strand On The Air original radio variety show series, the “Boxing Day Special,” will be broadcast Sunday, Dec. 26, at 5 p.m. The show can be heard by tuning in to WRFR at 93.3 in Rockland, 99.3 in Camden, or by streaming at Shows are then made available to stream on the Strand Theatre website at, and as a podcast.

“Sure, we know it’s not THAT kind of boxing,” said Strand House Manager Liz McLeod, who is also a veteran radio performer and writes and directs the Strand On The Air series. “But we’ll lace on the gloves anyway when the Strand On The Air bids farewell and good riddance to 2021. The Strand Family Players will be back, presuming we don’t sweep them out with the old wrapping paper, with a whole new round of post-holiday laughs.”

The show will include special contributions by musical guests mandolinist Jim Coffman and harmony duo Patty Jackson and Rusty Blake. Tune in as Edith Menhaden describes her legendary 200-year-old fruitcake, and hear a pulse-pounding no-holds-barred preliminary bout between Old Year 2021 and New Year 2022. And down in Abysmal Point, hear Mrs. Grunden and Gertie Crummet try to figure out a high-pressure gadget you’ve seen sold on late night TV.
