There were 18 additional COVID-19 cases in Knox County in the past day, the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported Friday, Nov. 19.

Since the pandemic began, 2,319 Knox County residents have been diagnosed with the virus, 56 have been admitted to hospitals, and 14 have died.

Statewide, an additional 944 cases were reported in the past day. There were 14 additional deaths reported statewide Nov. 19, increasing the number to 1,268. One death was a Waldo County resident, the 35th person Waldo County to die from the virus.

There were 19 additional people statewide admitted to hospitals in Maine with COVID-19 in the past day, increasing that number to 3,019 since the pandemic began in March 2020.

Hospitalizations of Maine residents remain near a record high. The CDC reports 273 Mainers are hospitalized with the virus, 74 in critical care units and 35 on respirators. Seventy percent of hospitalized patients are people who have not been vaccinated.

Health officials continue to urge people wear masks in indoor public places and to get vaccinated.
