There were 32 additional COVID-19 cases in Knox County in the past day, the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported Thursday, Nov. 18.

Since the pandemic began, 2,301 Knox County residents have been diagnosed with the virus, 56 have been admitted to hospitals, and 14 have died.

Statewide, an additional 933 cases were reported in the past day. There were 11 additional deaths reported statewide Nov. 18, increasing the number to 1,254.

There were 22 additional people statewide admitted to hospitals in Maine with COVID-19 in the past day, increasing that number to 3,000 since the pandemic began in March 2020.

For a fourth straight day, a new record number of Maine residents are hospitalized due to the the virus. The CDC reports 280 Mainers are hospitalized with the virus, 77 in critical care units and 36 on respirators. Seventy percent of hospitalized patients are people who have not been vaccinated.

The CDC reported Nov. 17, 30,750 Knox County residents — 81 percent of the eligible population — are fully vaccinated.

Statewide, 74 percent of eligible people have been fully vaccinated.

Health officials continue to urge people wear masks in indoor public places and to get vaccinated.
