There were 16 additional COVID-19 cases in Knox County in the past day, the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported Wednesday, Nov. 17.

Since the pandemic began, 2,269 Knox County residents have been diagnosed with the virus, 56 have been admitted to hospitals, and 14 have died.

Statewide, an additional 1,042 cases were reported in the past day. There were no additional deaths reported statewide Nov. 17, keeping the number at 1,243.

There were six additional people statewide admitted to hospitals in Maine with COVID-19 in the past day, increasing that number to 2,978 since the pandemic began in March 2020.

Yet again, a new record number of Maine residents are hospitalized due to the the virus. The CDC reports 275 Mainers are hospitalized with the virus, 74 in critical care units and 34 on respirators. Seventy percent of hospitalized patients are people who have not been vaccinated.

The CDC reported Nov. 16, 30,761 Knox County residents — 81 percent of the eligible population — are fully vaccinated. This is up 14 from the previous day.

Statewide, 74 percent of eligible people have been fully vaccinated.

Health officials continue to urge people wear masks in indoor public places and to get vaccinated.
