Rockport Forward, the Rockport Comprehensive Planning Committee’s initiative to update the 2004 Comprehensive Plan, held a public engagement meeting on the Nov. 9 at the Rockport Opera House, to kick off the update process.

Orion Thomas, town planning director, began the meeting by explaining the importance of a comprehensive plan and its uses in municipal governance. The participants at this event spent the next hour discussing a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats analysis. The results will be entered into Rockport Forward’s database and synthesized to discover what is important to Rockport citizens and what needs to be worked on. Results will be discussed with the public at the next public engagement event.

There will be a series of meetings in 2021 and early 2022. For those who want to stay informed, take the survey, and submit ideas, visit the Rockport Forward website at https://planmyrockport.mysocialpinpoint.com/ which will be updated with new event dates and data. Events are also posted on the Town calendar at rockportmaine.gov and you can sign up for the email list by emailing the planning director at planning@rockportmaine.gov and be placed on the Comp Plan Email List.
