ROCKPORT — The driver of a pickup truck was seriously injured Saturday morning when the vehicle struck a tree on Route 17.

Jesse Sawyer, 37, of Rockport, was driving a 2017 GMC pickup truck west on Route 17 when he went off the road to the right and struck a large tree. He was not wearing a seatbelt, according to Rockport police. The crash was reported at 7:43 a.m. Nov. 13.

Sawyer was taken by ambulance to the Knox County Regional Airport in Owls Head where a LifeFlight helicopter took him to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. The helicopter departed the airport shortly before 9 a.m.

The crash occurred west of Route 17 near the intersection of Mt. Pleasant Street.

The investigation into the crash continues. No information on Sawyer’s condition was immediately available.
