BALTIC, Conn. — Noah McLellan of Oceanside (Rockland) was among the 19 Maine high school student-athletes to participate in the 29th New England Interscholastic Golf Championships on Monday, Nov. 1 at the Mohegan Sun Golf Club.

The left-handed-swinging Mariner sophomore finished tied for 61st with 92 (+20) for 18 holes in sunny, but difficult, windy conditions.

Another golfer from a neighboring school led the Pine Tree State contingent as Kellen Adickes of Lincoln Academy (Newcastle) finished tied for 21st at 80 (+8).

Joey Lenane of Xaverian Brother High in Westwood, Mass. fired a 2-under-par 70 to earn medalist laurels in the New England boys division.

Emily Carter of Mount Desert Island finished 14th at 85 (+14) as the top Maine female finisher.

The state champion (boys and girls) in each class qualifies for the New England championships. The next top nine scores, regardless of the golfer’s class affiliation, plus ties, also qualify to compete in the New Englands, something McLellan did with 79 (tied for fourth in Class B) at the state event in October.

Essentially, the top 12 boys and girls from each of the six New England states were eligible to tee it up.
