ROCKLAND — The Midcoast Sports Hall of Fame honored and enshrined its eight newest member on Saturday night, Oct. 16 at the Elks Lodge.

Mike Curtis, Keenan Flanagan, Walt Gorneau, Emilio David Mazzeo, Chris McKenney, Dennis Pratt, Gary Woodcock and Carl Woodman were the latest inductees in the hall.

The group was enshrined during the 14th induction ceremony, usually an annual event, but which was not held in 2020 due to the pandemic.

The hall of fame is located in the Dow Discount Furniture building in Waldoboro.

Additionally, Medomak Valley High School’s Abby Lash and Camden Hills Regional High School’s Charlie Griebel, graduates of their high schools and current college students, were selected the organization’s 2020-21 schoolgirl and schoolboy athletes of the year. They were honored for their impressive work during their senior years.

Those up for top female athlete were Medomak Valley’s Lash; Oceanside’s Grace Woodman and Alexa Barstow; Lincoln Academy’s Caitlin Cass; and Camden Hills’ Caroline Contento.

Those up for top male athlete were Camden Hills’ Griebel and Jeremy Fraser; Medomak Valley’s Connor Daigle and Ethan Reed; and Oceanside’s Nate Coombs.

Teams honored during the ceremony were the 1964 state Babe Ruth champions, as well as the undefeated 1980 state Class C champion Georges Valley High School boys soccer squad.
