HOPE — George Edward “Eddie” Jacobs Jr., 86, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021, at the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor.

Eddie was born at home, in Hope, to Jennie M. and George Jacobs Sr. He was their oldest son.

Eddie attended the Hope Grammar School. His eighth-grade class was the first to hold a graduation. He graduated from Union High School in 1954.

After high school, Eddie enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was a jet airplane mechanic from 1954 to 1957.

After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, he worked at Maplewood Poultry Factory in Belfast. He began as a packer, and then later trained to be a State Agricultural Inspector.

Eddie enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and telling stories. He also enjoyed several winters in Florida with his wife. He was a long-time member, and deacon, of South Hope Community Church.

Other than his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Robert.

He is survived, and will be greatly missed, by his wife of 52 years, Laura S. Jacobs; daughter, Kimberly Colson; three grandchildren, Jessica, Travis and Wesley Colson; as well as four great-grandchildren, Rylee Harford, Rebecca, Benjamin and Ronni Colson. He is also survived by a brother, Wilbur Jacobs and a sister, Edith Clarey.

A graveside service with Military Honors, will be held at noon, Friday, Nov. 19, 2021,, at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta. Pastor Jamie Bickell will officiate. A family gathering will be held after Eddie’s service at Wilbur Jacob’s home in Hope.
