FRIENDSHIP — Voters in Friendship passed a shoreline ordinance change that will eliminate potential loopholes.
This change was recommended by the state.
Town Clerk Jessica Tainter Murphy said the change updates the language and explains the ordinance in more detail.
Murphy said the ordinance had not been updated since 2015, so the change was needed.
The Friendship Shoreline Zoning Ordinance protects the ocean shoreline from flooding and erosion. It has been updated 12 times since first being passed.
The final vote count was 333 yes to 115 no. There were 21 blank votes.
Final wording of the ordinance will be added to the Friendship website: friendship.maine.gov.
