ROCKLAND — A motorcyclist was injured Saturday morning, Oct. 23 as emergency crews responded to two separate vehicle crashes at the same time.

Police and emergency medical staff responded first to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Park and Union streets in Rockland shortly before 9 a.m. One passenger had minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport. One vehicle was a Massachusetts car and the other car was from New Hampshire.

According to Rockland police, a 2012 Volkswagen Golf driven by Dan C. Craici,  46,. of Nelson, NH. was driving east on Park Street and failed to stop at the red light at the intersection of Union Street and struck a 2018 Toyota Camry driven by George Ghiorse, 78, of Falmouth, Mass. that going south on Union Street. Patricia Ghiorse, 77, a passenger in the vehicle, was taken to PBMC with back pain.

As crews arrived at that crash, a report came in of a motorcycle/van crash on Main Street south of Thomaston Street.

According to police, Gerald Buck, 71, of Rockland, was riding the motorcycle out of the parking lot of Maritime Farms and the throttle stuck. The motorcyclist then drove the motorcycle across Main Street onto a lawn on the west side of the street and then back into the road, heading toward Owls Head.

The motorcycle skidded in the road in front of a van, struck the van, and the driver of the motorcycle was thrown off the vehicle and into a yard. The van was operated by Russell Hallock, 57, of Owls Head.

Buck was transported to PBMC where he was treated for non-threatening injuries to his arm, leg, and mouth.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office assisted Rockland police.
