AUGUSTA — An individual champion, third-place team and strong, fast performances were the norm for Midcoast cross-country runners on Saturday, Oct. 16 in the rain-soaked Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference championships at Cony High School.

Medomak Valley’s Connor Daigle, who has his sights set on high school regional and state championships in the coming weeks, finished first among the Class B boys, while the Camden Hills girls were third among Class A teams in the league meet.

Additionally, Camden Hills’ Jenna VanRyn and Cassie Middleton, as well as Oceanside’s Maria Protheroe and Belfast’s Will Robbins, turned in top-10 performances over the rain-soaked, 3.1-mile course.

Overall, Daigle had a faster time than all but two runners among 156 boys.

The Class A boys varsity team scores were: Brunswick 51, Hampden Academy 67, Bangor 67, Messalonskee of Oakland 112, Mount Blue of Farmington 125, Mount Ararat of Topsham 159, Brewer 218, Camden Hills of Rockport 226, Lewiston 235, Oxford Hills of South Paris 242, Edward Little of Auburn 303 and Skowhegan 328.

The Class A girls varsity team scores were: Bangor 52, Brunswick 64, Camden Hills 68, Mount Blue 70, Mount Ararat 117, Brewer 188, Messalonskee 191, Hampden Academy 197, Oxford Hills 254 and Lewiston 265.

The Class B girls varsity team scores were: Lincoln Academy of Newcastle 55, Cony 57, Waterville 81, Maranacook of Readfield 87, Morse of Bath 94, Gardiner 151, Belfast 184, Medomak Valley of Waldoboro 192 and Oceanside, among others, no score.

The Class B boys varsity team scores were: Cony 51, Lincoln Academy 68, Morse 74, Erskine Academy of South China 129, Nokomis of Newport 132, Leavitt of Turner 133, Belfast 168, Maranacook 182, Gardiner 216, Winslow 256 and Medomak and Oceanside, among others, no score.

The boys junior varsity team scores were: Bangor 25, Hampden Academy 65, Lincoln Academy 71, Brunswick 105, Morse 143, Mount Blue 158, Oxford Hills 202, Camden Hills 211, Lewiston 230 and Brewer 241.

The girls junior varsity team scores were: Bangor 15, Lincoln Academy 62, Brunswick 70, Mount Blue 106 and Maranacook 122.

Next up for area runners are the North regional championships on Saturday, Oct. 23 at Troy Howard Middle School in Belfast. The race times are: Class C girls (11 a.m.), Class C boys (11:40 a.m.), Class A girls (12:20 p.m.), Class A boys (1 p.m.), Class B girls (1:40 p.m.) and Class B boys (2:20 p.m.).
