ROCKPORT — The Midcoast Recreation Center will host the first “Fire to Ice” tournament fundraiser — a combination chili cookoff and three-on-three ice hockey tournament — on Saturday, Oct. 23 from 4 to 6 p.m.

Registration is free for the cookoff, but a minimum of two quarts of chili is required to enter the competition. Contestants must be age 18 or older to participate, and chili must be brought to the MRC in a crockpot labeled with their name and phone number.

A $150 prize is awarded to the “judges choice chili” and a $50 prize for the “people’s choice chili.”

Admission costs $10 per person and includes a sample of each chili in the competition.

The three-versus-three hockey tourney is an individual registration, as Jesse Simko, arena director, will form the teams based on the registrants. Registration is by donation, and the MRC suggests a minimum $50 donation to play.

Donations are not due until the day of the event.

Proceeds from the fundraiser benefit MRC’s youth hockey programs.

Registration for the chili cookoff and hockey tourney can be found here. All rules and regulations for the chili cookoff can be found in the chili registration form.
