BURLINGTON VT — Jay Elmer Carlson, 48, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Sept. 23, 2021, in Fish Camp, Calif.
Born Oct. 9, 1972, in Rockland, to Jay and Lisa (Small) Carlson, he was educated in local schools for some time before settling down in Vermont.

Jay worked as a manager for the Vermont Pub & Brewery in Burlington Vt. for 21 years and was also a self-employed financial investor.
Predeceased by his mother, Lisa; his grandparents, Elmer and Dorothy Small and LeRoy and Agatha Carlson, and his uncle, Timmy Carlson, he is survived by his father and step-mother, Jay and Julie Carlson, of Kronenwetter Wis.; his step-sisters, Ashley Frazell and her husband, Brian, of Searsmont, Lindsay Allison, of Augusta, Jenna Chapiewsky and her husband, Ryan, of Stillwater Minn., Jakki Cummins, of Bloomington Mont.; his aunts, Ivy Marriner and her husband, Jeff of Thomaston, Jamie Merrifield, of Owls Head, Carol Dahm and her husband, Mike, of Weston Wis., Nancy Ludwig and her husband, Bob, of Wausau Wis., Mary Strassberg and her husband, John, of Stevens Point, Wis., Jane Jackson and her companion, David of Jasper, Ga.; his uncles, David Carlson and his wife, Gloria, of Wausau Wis., Larry Carlson and his wife, Ann of Stevens Point. Wis., Danny Carlson and Gayle Cherek, of Weston Wis., Ned Carlson and his wife, Laurie, of Neillsville, Wis., Randy Carlson and his wife, Diane of Taos, N.M., Rodney Carlson, of Wausau Wis.; his Godparents, Elmer and Sheila Witham, of Owls Head, who can’t be thanked enough for being there for Jay through his entire life and helping us through this tragedy. Jay also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jay’s family would also like to extend their special thanks to the Ranger Service at Yosemite National Park, the staff at Tenaya Lodge in Fish Camp CA, and Sheila Witham, from Owls Head, for all their assistance, as well as to all his friends in Burlington Vt. and Rockland, for their love and support.

A very warm and loving thank-you to Joseph Williams for always being there for Jay.

A Memorial Service for Jay will be held at 11 am Saturday, Oct. 16 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. Rockland ME. Burial will follow at Achorn Cemetery.
