APPLETON — Anita Wellman started her new job as Town Clerk on Sept. 16.

“I like it a lot,” she said. “Everybody has been super supportive and patient.”

The job itself is not entirely new to her. She served as the Belmont Town Clerk for 13 years. Since that town office was open four days per week, she worked another day each week in Belfast City Hall for about a year and a half.

She lives in Belmont and is a graduate of Belfast High School.

Wellman replaces Elizabeth Dickerson, who resigned from the position.

In other Appleton news, the Select Board and Board of Assessors voted Sept. 14 to set the mil rate at 22.80. Offsets from increased state revenue sharing helped make this the third year the rate has remained flat.
