ROCKLAND — Regional School Unit 13 plans to create a committee that will look at upgrades to facilities throughout the district.

The RSU 13 Board met Sept. 23 in a workshop to discuss future facilities needs. Superintendent John McDonald said after the meeting, there was agreement that an ad hoc committee should be created to look at those needs.

He said improvements to Wasgatt Field, next to the South School and upgrades at the Oceanside High School auditorium are two projects likely to be considered.

At Wasgatt, creating a track around the field will be considered as well as upgrades to the lighting, the turf on the field and renovations to the fieldhouse.

At the auditorium, news seats, carpeting and electrical are needed. The last upgrade to the auditorium was completed in 2000. The school was built in 1962.

The superintendent expects the board will appoint members to the committee in October. McDonald said funding for the project will likely be a mix of fundraising, grants and possibly a bond issue.

The committee will consist of board members, staff, parents and students.
