AUGUSTA — Camden Hills of Rockport and Belfast cross-country runners more than held their own in a large regular-season high school meet on Friday, Sept. 24, an event attended by multiple, talented Class A and B teams and hosted by Cony.

The Windjammer girls finished second to Bangor, as the Rams continued to prove a bit better thus far this season. The Camden Hills boys ended fifth.

Meanwhile, the Belfast boys finished better than nearly half the field, while the Lion girls did not have five runners for a team score.

Camden Hills’ Jenna VanRyn again led the Midcoast contingent with a solid second-place finish among 69 girls, while Belfast’s Will Robbins was 15th among the 104 boys to key the local group of distance athletes.

Bangor’s Megan Randall (20:37.65) and Hampden Academy’s Abbott Valentine (17:04.9) finished first in the girls and boys races over the 3.1-mile course.

The girls team scores were: Bangor 43, Camden Hills 57, Cony 60, Waterville 80, Hampden Academy 123, Gardiner 141 and Belfast, Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield, Erskine Academy of South China, Skowhegan, Edward Little of Auburn and Winslow no score.

The boys team scores were: Hampden Academy 35, Bangor 40, Cony 89, Erskine Academy 141, Camden Hills 145, Belfast 166, Winslow 207, Waterville 212, Edward Little 218 and Gardiner 227.
