Knox County continued to see a torrid pace of both home sales and prices.

According to Maine Listings, a subsidiary of the Maine Association of Realtors, there were 227 single-family homes sold in Knox County from June 1 through Aug. 31. This is an 18% increase from the 193 homes sold during the same three months in 2020.

The number of sales and the prices are the most on record. There were 168 sales for this period in 2019, 200 in 2018 and 171 in 2017. In 2014, only 134 sales occurred for those three months.

The average price of homes in Knox County that sold for the past three months in 2021, jumped 39% from a year ago — $255,000 to $355,000.

Knox County saw the steepest increase in sale prices of any county in Maine and the second highest percentage increase in the number of sales.

Statewide, the number of sales rose less than 1% while the sale prices rose on average 20% from a year ago.

Prices ranged from a high of $451,000 on average in Cumberland County to a low of $150,000 on average in Aroostook County.
