DAMARISCOTTA — River Arts, 36 Elm St., presents “Artist’s Choice,” an exhibition showcasing the breadth of artistic expression for which Maine artists are known. Juror Simon van der Ven selected 73 artists from 153 entrants. Van der Ven noted, “I was very impressed by the quantity, variety, and high quality of submissions for the ‘Artist’s Choice’ show. Selecting the pieces for the exhibition was no easy task. It’s very clear River Arts is at the center of a rich and nurturing arts community.”

The artists were called to enter work in their individual styles without the limitations of subject matter. There were a record number of entries and the resulting show is a spectacular array of realism, abstraction and impressionism. This reflective exhibition embraces both introspection and extroversion. With works in oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, ceramics, fiber, cut paper, glass, sculpture and photography, there is truly something for everyone in this show.

An opening reception for “Artist’s Choice” will be held Saturday, Sept. 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. “Artist’s Choice” runs through Saturday, Oct. 16. Masks are required in River Arts Gallery.
