WARREN — Warren residents will decide next week whether to spend $95,000 to buy 42 acres of undeveloped land on Patterson Mill Road.

The Selectboard scheduled a special town meeting for 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, at the town office.

The only item on the town meeting warrant is the proposal to authorize the town to purchase the property owned by Allen Blueberry Freezer Inc. of Ellsworth. The property is across from the intersection of Highland Road.

Town Manager Sherry Howard said no decision has been made on what to use the land for, but acknowledged it is next to a town cemetery.

The Selectboard voted at its Aug. 25 meeting to sign an option to purchase the property, contingent on voter approval. The property owner agreed to give the town first refusal on the land until Oct. 1, according to Selectboard minutes.

The property is assessed by the town at $16,200. Howard said that the asking price is based on an appraisal done by Allen Blueberry.

The money for the purchase may come from the perpetual care account, according to meeting minutes.
