SOUTH THOMASTON — South Thomaston’s newest school board member attended his first meeting Sept. 9.

Brad Choyt was appointed to the Regional School Unit 13 Board by the South Thomaston Selectboard at its Aug. 24 meeting. He will serve until the next annual town meeting.

Choyt succeeds Lane Sturtevant, who moved outside South Thomaston. She served on the board since July 2020, having been appointed to succeed Ryan Minikis.

Choyt has an extensive background in education. He was head of the Blue School in New York City from 2009 through 2011, head administrator at North Yarmouth Academy in Maine from 2011 through 2014 and head of school at Crossroads Academy in Lyme, N.H., from 2015 through 2021.

The South Thomaston man said at the Sept. 9 meeting that he was happy to join the board and loved working with children. He has a child in the school system.
