WEST HILLS, Calif. — Mona Shafter, 83, a long-time Rockland resident, passed away peacefully in West Hills, Calif., Aug. 25, 2021, after an extended illness.

Born in Chelsea, Mass., Mona lived in Rockland with her loving husband, Ronald Shafter, for 53 years. Mona worked at the Maine National Bank for over 20 years, and spent many years caring for others.

She enjoyed planning and cooking for family events and celebrations.

Other than her parents, Mona was predeceased by her beloved husband Ronald; siblings Shirley Shumsker and Irving Horovitz. She is survived by nieces and nephews Leslie Shumsker, Joyce Bianco, Ellen Sirois, Karen Rimmer, Craig Shear and Alan Shear; many grand-nieces and nephews; as well as many great-grandnieces and nephews.

Mona was laid to rest Friday, Sept. 3, at the Jewish Cemetery in Owls Head, where she will rest in peace.
