OWLS HEAD — The Mussel Ridge Historical Society has begun a fundraising drive to build a learning center adjacent to the community center to preserve the town’s history.
The Historical Society is required to raise the $220,000 before construction can begin.
The Society notes in its brochures that the Mussel Ridge Learning Center would be a “place where Owls Head history — past, present and future — can come alive.”
“Together, we can ensure that [Mussel Ridge Historical Society] has a home where Owls Head’s history can be preserved and shared with the wider community, engaging people of all ages, in the stories and collections of the past and present as an investment for the future.”
The center would have enough storage to preserve artifacts, photos, and stories, according to the Society.
People can donate by check to: Mussel Ridge Historical Society, P.O. Box 133, Owls Head ME 04854.
The Society is holding a yard sale Saturday, Sept. 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the old Grange Hall located on Ash Point Drive near the intersection of North Shore Drive. The sale will include vintage items from the early 1900s including theater, wooden folding, and straight-back chairs; bureaus, upright piano, tables, lots of china, glass and flatware; a podium; a 1935 Universal electric stove and oven; and fixtures such as the furnace and aluminum duct work.
