In the final stages of the Midcoast Adult Coed Softball League double-elimination playoffs, postseason games have reached a fevered pitch of excitement as two teams — No. 2 Knox County Benchwarmers and No. 3 Bayview Bushwhackers — have swung, run, thrown and pitched into position to capture the coveted championship.

The first of two possible championship clashes will be on Thursday, Sept. 2 at 6 p.m., if weather and field conditions allow.

No. 3 Bayview Bushwhackers (15-3 overall, 3-0 in playoffs) will face No. 2 Knox County Benchwarmers (16-4 overall, 4-1 in playoffs) at the Jaycee Park on Old County Road in Rockland.

If Bayview wins, it is the champion. If Bayview loses, a second title game is Sept. 3 at the same venue.

Thus far this season, Benchwarmers led in runs plated with 307 and fewest runs allowed at 100, for a whopping differential of 207 and Bushwhackers (281-129-152).

The finalists have played several competitive games this season, including earlier in the playoffs when Bushwhackers pulled out a 15-6, eight-inning victory. During the regular season, Benchwarmers won both games between the foes — 11-8 and 24-8.

Since losing to Bushwhackers in the postseason, Benchwarmers have prevailed in two one-run playoff games and two-run contest to stay in the title hunt.

Benchwarmers are former champions in the league, while Bushwhackers participated for the first time this summer.

Games have been played at a multitude of venues, including Jaycee Park on Old County Road in Rockland, former Rockport Elementary School on the corner of Route 1 and West Street in Rockport, Camden Snow Bowl, Hope Elementary School, Lincolnville Central School and Thomaston Little League Field.
