WALDOBORO —  The Waldoboro Recreation Department will offer adult indoor pickleball starting on Tuesday, Sept. 7 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Waldoboro First Baptist Church.

The program will run Tuesday and Thursday mornings, and is $4 per day for participants. It will be a relaxed, pickup-style atmosphere.

No preregistration is required, just show up and have fun. One court will be designated for advanced play as long as numbers allow.

Youth soccer

The department also is accepting registrations for its youth soccer program.

Although the program is sponsored by the town’s recreation department, participation is open to all area youth, including non-residents. The program is based on a developmental sports philosophy; concentrating more on learning and less on winning.

The program has three divisions:

Kindergarten to second grade (coed) — Starts on Saturday, Sept. 18, and runs Saturday mornings 9 to 10:30.

Third and fourth grades (coed) — Starts on Monday, Sept. 13, and runs weekdays and Saturdays (games versus Regional School Unit 40 towns).

Fifth and sixth grades — Starts Monday, Sept. 13, and runs weekdays and Saturdays (games versus Midcoast towns).

Shin guards are required for all divisions, with soccer cleats recommended for third- and fourth-, as well as the fifth- and sixth-grade divisions. Mouth guards also are required for third- and fourth- and fifth- and sixth-grade divisions, while they are recommended for the kindergarten to second-grade division.

The cost is $25 for residents and $35 for non-residents, with the final day to register on Thursday, Sept. 9.

Registration forms are available at the Waldoboro Town Office, or by clicking here.

Recreation director Marcus Benner said the department aims to create a positive environment for children to learn the game and spend time with friends and family, as well as relying on the continued support of volunteers to coach, referee, conduct fundraising and set up/clean up the fields.
