OWLS HEAD — An airplane was damaged Aug. 31 when it struck a sign while trying to land, then going off the runway at the Knox County Regional Airport.
The single-engine Cessna Skyhawk was rented in Sanford and coming to Owls Head, according to Knox County Airport Manager Jeremy Shaw. The pilot said he lost control and struck the taxiway sign. The impact tore off the left main landing gear of the plane.
The plane ended up in the middle of a field.
The two people on board were not injured.
The incident occurred shortly after noon, Aug. 31.
