ST. GEORGE — On Friday, Sept. 10, Hedgerow Gallery kicks off a show of ceramic sculptures and encaustic works by Portland artist Elizabeth Ruskin and St. George artist Otty Merrill.

The title of this exhibit, “Earth, Wind & Fire,” Ruskin says, reflects “the deep connection with nature both Otty and I feel. Each of our mediums, encaustics and ceramics, is made with organic materials—primarily beeswax, pigment and/or clay—and ‘wind’ and ‘fire’ are integral parts of both of our creative processes.”

Merrill adds, “I tend to turn inward when making art, drawing on memories, travels and emotions. I think Elizabeth’s pottery style and my style of painting compliment each other nicely.”

Ruskin and Merrill’s show runs through Sept. 19. An opening reception will be held Friday, Sept. 10, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Hedgerow Gallery is located at 8 Ridge Road at the corner of Ridge Road and Route 131 on the St. George Peninsula. It is open Wednesdays through Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, go to, and
