SOUTH THOMASTON —The Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded Aug. 28 to a report of an assault on Andrews Island.

The call came in at about 8 p.m. Officers and emergency medical staff went to Owls Head and South Thomaston to await any patient being brought ashore.

Deputies went by boat to the island located a few miles off South Thomaston.

A man reported that he was assaulted while partying with friends on Andrews Island. The caller reported that he observed another friend also being assaulted, so he ran into the woods.

Deputies arrived and found a group of people and interviewed them. They also located the caller and determined that intoxication was a significant factor. Two people were transferred from the property and escorted back to the mainland. No one was taken to the hospital.

Not enough evidence was present to support criminal charges, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Andrews Island is part of the Muscle Ridge Island and an unorganized territory under the state.
