UNION — Vose Library will hold the grand opening of its new story walk Sept. 1 at 5 p.m., led by special guest author Lynn Plourde.

Library Director Debra Lay said they are over the moon to be able to make this event happen.

The story walk is 20 posts around the building and on a nature trail.

Each post includes part of Plourde’s book “At One: In a Place Called Maine.”

Lay said the library worked with George’s River Land Trust to expand the nature trail. The story walk helps to get patrons outside and walking from one post to the next while they read.

The grand opening will include a ribbon cutting and a raffle of an autographed copy of Plourde’s book. Plourde will then lead the first story walk.

Lay said Plourde’s book will stay on the story walk for about two months. Future story walks will feature other books.

Lay thanked all those who made the story walk possible, including the Pullen Fund and Union residents like Steven Dunn who dug all the post holes by hand. “I don’t even know how to thank him enough,” Lay said.

“The story walk has truly been a real hometown community project,” she added.
