There were seven additional cases of COVID-19 in Knox County over the past weekend, the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported Aug. 24.

Since the pandemic began, 1,282 Knox County residents were diagnosed with the virus, 37 were admitted to hospitals and seven died. Knox County has not seen any additional hospitalizations in the past week despite 22 additional cases in a week.

Statewide, an additional 363 cases were reported over the weekend. There were no additional deaths reported statewide Aug. 24, keeping the number at 924.

Sixteen additional people statewide were hospitalized over the weekend, increasing that number to 2,252 since the pandemic began in Maine in mid-March 2020.

Currently, 123 Mainers are hospitalized with the virus, 61 in critical care units and 25 are on respirators. This is a sharp jump and the highest since early spring.

The CDC reports an additional 67 Knox County residents have been fully vaccinated over the weekend, reaching 27,060 which is 77% of the eligible population.
